Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe should take a lead in regulating complementary medicines, Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa has said. Addressing stakeholders attending the MCAZ annual consultative meeting in Harare on Wednesday, Dr Parirenyatwa expressed concern over the rampant sale of complementary medicines some of which were not registered.
He challenged the MCAZ to ensure that harmful medicines were not on the market.
“There are so many of these complementary medicines being sold in the country and you should look at how best that can be solved so that we help each other,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.
He urged MCAZ to find ways of dealing with the abuse of drugs especially by the youths. “MCAZ should work on awareness campaigns to curb this trend where there is massive abuse of drugs in schools particularly by those pupils with a rich background and those from tertiary institutions,” he said.
