Kelvin Pangiso wins

Seasoned long distance runner Kelvin Pangiso went home $1 500 richer after he emerged as the winner at the Old Mutual Roger Brackley Marathon when he stopped the clock first in the main event at Old Georgians Sports Club on Sunday.

Pangiso beat a total field of nearly 109 athletes to win the open marathon category at the revamped event which has also incorporated a relay.

The event is held in honour of the late Harare Athletic Club member and former pilot Roger Brackley who died in 1995 after succumb to cancer and had participated in nearly seven Comrades ultra-marathon.

The Harare athlete broke the ribbon in 2 hours 18 min 54 seconds while unheralded Lyno Muchena was four seconds behind on 2 hours 19 minutes in the men’s open category as Jonathan Chinyoka was third ahead of a strong field that included Stephen Muzhingi and Gilbert Mutandiro.
