adminNAIROBI. – The Kenyan government has set aside an unspecified amount of money for the purchase of tablet computers to be given to lower primary school children.
The development comes as a big boost to information and communication technologies in Kenya as the country takes steps to ensure that it achieves its vision 2030.
Vision 2030 is an ambitious plan to provide employment and eradicate poverty. That vision is directly hinged on ICT development.
“For this country to realise The Vision 2030, ICT development must be given first priority, starting with the education sector,” the Cabinet Secretary to the Ministry of Information and Communication, Dr Fred Matiangi said.
ICT sector in Kenya had been neglected by the previous governments, a factor that slowed its development. The government’s commitment to boost ICT is a welcome move to many Kenyans who had taken on online jobs due to limited job opportunities in the job market.
The Konza City initiative that is currently under implementation will meanwhile be among the key pillars of ICT development.
The park is set to host business process outsourcing ventures, a science park, a convention centre, shopping malls, hotels, international schools, and health facility project was allowed by the Parliament Accounts Committee and endorsed by the Kenyan government.
The city will be located in Konza,
Machakos County. It will be built on 5 000 acres of land 64km south of Nairobi. – CAJ News.
