Chairman Isaack Hassan told journalists in Nairobi that through a subsidiary legislation, the legal framework has been established. Both financial and logistical arrangements are in place in case the first round of presidential elections does not produce a clear winner,” Hassan said during an international conference to discuss Kenya’s preparedness on the upcoming general elections.
The two-day conference brought together over 100 electoral stakeholders to deliberate and debate through the topical questions of a presidential run-off and dispute resolution.
Hassan’s remark came in the wake of recent opinion polls indicating that none of the presidential aspirants has a clear absolute majority. According to the electoral law, if no presidential candidate garners more than 50 percent plus one vote and 25 percent of the vote in at least 24 counties and there is not dispute, the second round should be held within 30 days of the declaration of the results. — Xinhua.
