Kenyatta castigates reckless drivers as 41 perish

MOMBASA. — Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday vowed tough action after 41 people died in a road crash, one of the worst in recent years.
In a statement issued in the port city Mombasa, Kenyatta directed the vehicle owners to monitor the activities of their drivers and not only ask for proceeds from their vehicles.

“The Head of State said road accidents have reached an alarming rate and the Government cannot continue watching innocent Kenyans losing lives through road carnage due to reckless driving,” the statement said.

Kenyatta’s warning came hours after 41 people were killed and 33 others injured in a grisly road accident along Nairobi-Narok highway.
A bus crashed as the driver negotiated a drift from Nairobi while heading to western Kenya.

Traffic police commandant Samuel Kimaru said they suspect the driver lost control of the bus and then veered off the road, causing the accident.

Kenyatta sent condolences to families, relatives and friends of the Narok bus accident, urging all road users to pay attention to road safety. — Xinhua.
