Zimbabwe has made significant strides in wildlife conservation through collaborations and partnerships.
This was said by Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority director-general Dr Fulton Mangwanya during an event to raise awareness on the new SADC TFCA programme 2023-2033 and other natural resource and tourism framework.
He said SADC protocols and other frameworks had provided unique opportunities to promote integrated management of shared resources.
“As a country, we have witnessed the power of collaboration and we can share that,” he said.
“If we work together, we can safeguard and preserve our diverse biodiversity, advocate for sustainable land use and natural resources management practices, support initiatives for climate change mitigation and adaptation, cultivate inclusive and sustainable economic growth.”
International Fund for Animal Welfare country director Ms Alleta Nyahuye said the mission of the SADC TFCA programme was to facilitate the establishment of a cohesive and interconnected network of transfrontier conservation areas.
“At IFAW, we believe that collaboration is essential for effective wildlife conservation.
“By working together, we can address some of the most urgent conservation challenges in the SADC region, such as poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and climate change.
“Guided by the SADC TFCAs programme and with a spirit of unity and cooperation, we must combine our efforts and resources to protect the region’s biodiversity and ensure a better future for both wildlife and people,” she said.
