A 25-YEAR-OLD Kezi woman reportedly gave birth before strangling her new born baby and dumped its corpse in a Blair toilet, police have said.
The incident happened last Tuesday at around 4am.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya said the suspect, Nomagugu Dube of Beauty Moyo’s homestead in Zvehama Village under Chief Nyangazonke in Kezi, gave birth to a baby girl while she was alone in her room at her workplace and killed it.

Dube was employed at a hardware shop at Marinoha Business Centre in Kezi.
“On 1 October at around 4am, Dube gave birth to a baby girl while she was alone in her room and strangled the infant. She tried to burn the corpse and later threw the body into a Blair toilet,” said Asst Insp Ngwenya.

After dumping, Dube alleged that she was sick and needed some days off from work.
She left her workplace intending to go to her home as she believed that she had kept her pregnancy a secret not knowing that there were some people who were aware of the pregnancy.

A suspicious Mr Sidalokuhle Ncube (36) spotted her at Maphisa Growth Point and he informed the police about his suspicions. Police arrested Dube and took her to the scene of the incident.

“Police attended to the scene and the body of the infant was retrieved from the Blair toilet and was taken to Maphisa District Hospital mortuary for postmortem,” he said.

Asst Insp Ngwenya said Dube was in police custody and would soon appear in court facing infanticide charges.
