first leg of the MTN8 semi-final clash with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium tonight.
The Urban Warriors’ midfielder was in terrific form in the quarter-final against SuperSport and scored two goals in the 5-2 victory. The Zimbabwean was praised in the media as he terrorised the former champions with his dribbling skills, which earned him the man-of-the-match award. But the midfielder will not be able to take his form to Soccer City after he was ruled out of the team yesterday morning.
Billiat was injured during the midweek clash against Maritzburg United when they settled for a 1-1 draw.
Speaking from his base in the Mother City, the former Aces player said it was a disappointing blow to miss the crucial match.
“It was only discovered at training this morning that the knee was injured and I am going for a scan. I received a lot of knocks in the second half of the league match and after the game I was feeling some pain.
“But on Thursday we had light training and didn’t really feel it until this morning. I am very disappointed because I was doing well and really had a good game against SuperSport and was hoping to shine for my team again this weekend.
“But I am sure my teammates will do the job. It will be a tough game for us considering that last season we were poor on the road and struggled against Kaizer Chiefs,” said Billiat.
The midfielder also spoke about his team’s slow start in the league, where they have managed a draw against Maritzburg and lost 2-0 to Platinum Stars in the opening game.
“We have a lot of youngsters and new players in our squad and combinations and adjustments are not yet okay but we will come right and do well like last season and we have learnt something from
last year’s campaign,” said Billiat.
His countryman Tafadzwa Rusike, who has been recalled into the Warriors squad for the Liberia game at home, is in team that travelled to Johannesburg.
Kaizer Chiefs are warming up to the challenge of the Cape Town side and defender Thomas Sweswe believes his team will prevail again tonight. The Warriors defender, who is not part of the team as he is recovering from a bout of flu, said everyone was motivated to do well in the R8 million Cup.
“Every time when we meet Ajax it is an open game where we play attacking football and it would be another good match for us. The last season’s match, where we won 4-0, was one of our best games.
“The players have easily motivated themselves because just after four games there is a chance of pocketing R8 million,” said Sweswe.
Amakhosi new signings Willard Katsande and Lincolin Zvasiya would not be part of the proceedings in the Cup game as the coach is still working with them at training and are likely to be introduced in the mid-week. Yesterday the players were processing their work permits at Home Affairs and Zvasiya’s international clearance letter was issued yesterday.
Sweswe said the Warriors duo was quickly settling in at Naturena.
The other semi final features defending champions Orlando Pirates against Sundowns tomorrow. Warriors and Sundowns captain Method Mwanjali will lead his team against a confident Bucs, who won a treble last season and has started the season brightly winning their first two matches.
