Khama will not bring any Karma

People often refer to some mythical construct called Karma as some kind of leveller or Fate. Oftentimes, those resigned or believe in it appeal to it to settle their personal scores often in a retributive or vengeful manner.

Hence, you often hear people remarking that Karma is a bitch, which we presume does give one an idea of lack of charitability on the Karma.

Now, the opposition in this country has been trying to get back at the ruling party, zanu-pf, which has been “mean” to the opposition throughout these years by way of delivering successive electoral defeats.

And, it has to be acknowledged, some of these defeats have not been — as a rule of the dirty game called politics — very clean.

(But what do you expect in this anomic sphere of blood and iron where to win is the only rule?)

So the opposition happily welcomed the Sadc chairmanship of one Khama — Seretse Khama Ian Khama — who they hoped would be their Karma.

This Khama, is the President of the Republic of Botswana and by all accounts has been sympathetic to the cause of the MDC-T.

This stems from their mutual vassal-ship to mighty America.

America has been pursuing regime change in Zimbabwe via the MDC-T and Botswana has provided moral and material support to the MDC.

We also have heard that they host broadcast installations that beam anti-Zimbabwe messages and previously have been linked to hosting a training camp of MDC bandits or terrorists.

Tsvangirai himself once sought refuge in that country in 2008, for quite unclear reasons, but which we understand had to do with him meeting the Americans away from home eyes.

Botswana, by the way, hosts US military base and installations.

Khama has more than once shown to be active in aiding attempts at regime change in Zimbabwe.

This is the background of the latest curiosity by the MDC-T.

They want Khama to use his chairmanship of Sadc to achieve regime change in Zimbabwe.

What they lost in elections, the want to achieve via the Sadc back-door.

They imagine Khama riding roughshod over other Heads of State and Government to push for regime change in Zimbabwe.

They want him to throw all the rules of regional engagement and diplomatic convention to deliver their Karma.

We only wish them good luck.

But they also have to know that Sadc is not a dictatorship, much less a military barrack.

Cavaliers will not work.

Not with 14 other presidents who are equal and can be equal to any task before them, not least because the Sadc chair is rotational.

Which should be sobering enough.

And even Khama himself has not imagined himself to be the Khama for, and on behalf of, Karma.

News coming from Botswana is that when MDC-T reportedly sent a delegation to him during the just-ended summit in Gaborone, he was not even aware of their presence.

We believe him, especially when he was engrossed with regional matters and hosting leaders.

Meanwhile, NewsDay, part of the lunatic fringe, has been scraping the bottom of the barrel for any indications moulding an attack dog in Khama.

But even their analysts are alive to the reality.

Takura Zhangazha was forthright to tell NewsDay that, “there will be little that Khama can do on his own or without the requisite regional consensus when it comes to Zimbabwe.”

He explained: “Unless there is another disputed election in Zimbabwe or a monumental political and economic humanitarian crisis, Khama cannot look for one, let alone create it.”

That’s the point exactly.

Another analyst, Alexander Rusero is also clear in stating that, “to say that his script will be different from that of Mugabe will be a bit far-fetched.”

Unfortunately for Rusero, he loses it when he tells us that Khama “has been an icon of democracy in the region”.

Really? Not even Batswana will agree with that!

Come again, Mr Gutu?

MDC-T has threatened to boycott what it describes as zanu-pf-linked businesses.

The aim of this bombshell news, we are warned, is to force the ruling party to “implement wide-ranging electoral reforms” ahead of 2018 elections. Needless to say, not a single specific area of the electoral law is cited as requiring reform, it’s the usual, tired mumbo jumbo about the Constitution not being implemented.

That didn’t stop the party’s clueless spokesman Obert Gutu gushing about the party’s latest fighting weapon to win elections against zanu-pf.

“When dealing with an entrenched dictatorship, we need to devise systems or programmes that make it scream,” he said.

“We need to hear zanu-pf scream and as a democratic party we can only engage in peaceful resistance to this regime until it squeals.

“The MDC-T has come up with a programme in which we will call on all our supporters and the generality of Zimbabweans to stop dealing and buying products from zanu-pf-linked and owned businesses as well as their products.”

Squeals and screams, doesn’t that ring a bell? Yes, you guessed it, the ghost of Chester Crocker lives large in the MDC-T. He has willing tools trying mighty hard to execute his regime change through MDC-T self-immolation.

The language and idea are both alien, confirming the obvious, that the MDC-T leadership can never be credited for creativity. Following a recent attack by the Americans for their decision to boycott the June 10 by-elections without offering an alternative strategy to achieve their goals, now the master has ordered them to try food boycott to elicit public sympathy.

Let them starve themselves to death if they want. They have foreign appetites and pursue alien ideologies — the dimwitts. Nobody will miss them in the food shops.

Meanwhile, thousands of victims of MDC-T negotiated sanctions are being laid off empty-handed with nothing to buy food, only to be advised by the authors of their misery that the solution to their woes is to go on a hunger strike. This is a cruel world.

Most honest Zimbabweans are keen to devise new strategies for economic recovery from MDC-T inspired acts of sabotage.

Those strategies include beneficiation of minerals and other primary products. They include promoting consumption of locally-manufactured products. What does this bunch of foreign-funded economic saboteurs come up with: they want every Zimbabwean to consume foreign imports!

How does that help the local worker Mr Tsvangison? But then he has donor funds in his pocket. Why should he consume local products? That’s why he can afford to mock those who can’t buy food to boycott local products.
