Multi-award-winning dance ensemble Khaya Arts, is expanding its creative footprint with the launch of a modelling competition, Mr and Miss Khaya Arts.
The inaugural edition of the pageant is scheduled to take place on June 13 at the Khaya Arts Centre in Tshabalala, Bulawayo. It is targeting youths aged 17 to 25, offering them a springboard into the world of modelling and performance.
Following the success of the first round of auditions last month, registrations are now open and there is a lot of excitement among aspiring models from across the city.
Khaya Arts director and founder, Future Dube, said the pageant is part of a broader mission to develop young people in high-density suburbs, by giving them opportunities to shine in the creative arts.
“The pageant is mainly to empower the youths from high-density suburbs and to increase brand visibility.
“With categories spanning fashion, talent and personality, the pageant is set to uncover fresh faces and nurture the next generation of models,” said Dube.
He said the Mr and Miss Khaya Arts contest is more than just a beauty pageant.
“It’s a celebration of charisma, creativity as well as confidence and is also a platform designed to build self-esteem while equipping participants with real-world experience in the modelling and fashion industry.”
With Khaya Arts’ strong background in performance and community engagement, the pageant is expected to be a vibrant and empowering event that spotlights untapped potential from local neighbourhoods. — @mthabisi_mthire
