SOME Zanu-PF members in Matabeleland South Province have been accused of undermining the authority of provincial chairperson, Cde Andrew Langa, in violation of the party’s constitution which gives him powers to preside over provincial affairs.
Zanu-PF national chairperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, yesterday urged party members, including members of the Politburo to respect Cde Langa.
He warned some party officials who were reportedly sidelining Cde Langa when doing party business that they risked being punished.
Cde Khaya Moyo said such officials were working against the party’s constitution because Cde Langa as the provincial chairman was head of the party leadership in the province.
Speaking at a Matabeleland South Zanu-PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held at the party’s provincial headquarters in Gwanda Town, Cde Khaya Moyo said party members including Politburo members should ensure provincial party business was done through the Cde Langa.
“Remember that the party has a constitution and the chairman is the leader in the province.
“Politburo members and members of the National Consultative Assembly don’t run provinces.
“The province is run by the chairman and his provincial executive. We as leaders are there to assist particularly in matters of policy,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
He said each and every province was sovereign and should be proud of its leadership.
“There are reports of individuals seeking advice from other provinces on how to deal with provincial party affairs without the knowledge of the provincial chairman.
“You might think it is private but we know everything,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
He urged party members to desist from gossiping but build and support one another as gossip was equivalent to witchcraft.
“Once you start gossiping, you should know that you are not a leader. Let us be the members of the party, ungabi ngumuntu womuntu.
“We all have to work for the party and learn to respect each other,” added Cde Khaya Moyo.
