ZANU-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has lashed out at some power hungry individuals within the party who were trying to cause problems during and after the primary elections. In a statement, Cde Khaya Moyo said such kind of wayward behaviour by some party members was unacceptable and intolerable.
“Our party elections are over albeit some unacceptable conduct by some among us whose appetite for power at all cost is shameful,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo however, said Zanu-PF would look into grievances by some disgruntled party members as the election campaign proceeds.
“We have promised to revisit these concerns (by disgruntled party members) as the election campaign proceeds. I must however, applaud those Provincial Election Directorates who conducted their primary elections in a commendable manner. We remain one family, the Zanu-PF family solid and united,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said there were no losers in Zanu-PF elections.
He urged those who lost in the just ended primaries to rally behind those who were elected party candidates for the 31 July harmonised elections.
“There are no losers in Zanu-PF primary elections. There are only competitors and in any competitive race some reach the finishing line before others.
“Let all of us therefore rally behind our candidates and ensure a thunderous victory for our party in the forthcoming harmonised elections,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo urged the electorate to vote for Zanu-PF, saying it was a tried and tested revolutionary party.
President Mugabe on Friday officially launched the 2013 Zanu-PF election campaign and manifesto at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield in Harare, setting the stage for an intense three-week campaign period.
President Mugabe described the harmonised elections as “a battle of our lives,” saying the revolutionary party would win resoundingly.
The party is running its campaign under the theme “Indigenise, Empower, Develop And Create Employment.” The 108-page manifesto is a five-year plan of action for the party if it secures victory in the forthcoming elections.
The President said the document focuses on the land reform programme, indigenisation and economic empowerment, job creation, promotion of social services and industrial development, among others.
Small and medium-scale enterprise development, he said were also an integral part of the manifesto, adding that SMEs should aim to grow bigger.
According to the manifesto, Zanu-PF would focus on consolidating and deepening “independence, sovereignty, unity, security, respect for the values and ideals of the liberation struggle, patriotism, gender equality, respect for the elderly, economic prosperity, achievement, equality, peace, freedom and democracy, non-violence, tolerance, stability, the youth as the future, employment, housing for all, respect for persons with disabilities, development and freedom of worship.”
It says the revolutionary party has indigenised 12 million hectares of land. It would also seek to create value of $7, 3 billion from the indigenisation of 1 138 companies across 14 key sectors of the economy.
