Khumalo headmistress suspended for ‘insulting’ deputy

The Khumalo Primary School headmistress in Bulawayo, Stella Mhlanga, has been suspended for allegedly dressing down her deputy headmaster in the presence of staff members and learners.

A source who witnessed the dramatic incident unfold said the headmistress met the deputy headmaster walking along the corridor and a misunderstanding arose.

“On the day in question, she got involved in an argument with the deputy headmaster and insulted him in the presence of staff members and learners. It was a shameful incident,” said a teacher who requested not to be named.

The deputy headmaster felt demeaned and reported the incident to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. After that, the ministry officials descended on her.

“The officials suspended her for three months. The suspension was handed down last month on 14 September and will be in force until 14 November,” she said.

She is facing a charge of unbecoming behaviour during her duty.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Taungana Ndoro, confirmed the incident.

“While I can’t delve into specific details of the incident, the decision was made to ensure a respectful and positive environment for both staff and pupils,” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from Mhlanga were fruitless. Mhlanga once hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons after she allegedly posted “a wrong picture” on her WhatsApp status but quickly deleted it, leading to public outcry.
