FORMER CAPS United skipper Tapiwa Khumbuyani has found a new home at ambitious Bulawayo side How Mine. Khumbuyani’s contract with CAPS United ended last season and he has signed a two-year contract with Chikurupati. How Mine began their pre-season training on Thursday, but the veteran defender will only join the team on Monday as he is still in Harare.
“I have now secured a club and will be joining them on Monday. This is another challenge for me and I hope to do well at this new club.
“I have been in Harare since 2008 and now I will learn to adjust but I hope that will not be much of a problem,” said Khumbuyani.
The former Warriors right-back had been playing his cards close to his chest since his contract expired at the Green Machine last month.
He becomes the third player to officially part ways with the Green Machine after Tendai Samanja’s move to Harare City and the departure of Kelvin Bulaji to bitter rivals Dynamos.
At How Mine, Khumbuyani joins veterans Benjamin Marere and Tawanda Muparati who are at the side.
Dynamos midfielder Devon Chafa has also been linked with a move to the gold miners.
Khumbuyani started his career at Chapungu before moving to Masvingo United where he played for six months.
In 2008, he joined Kiglon before he switched to Monomotapa the following year.
He has earned several caps with the Warriors and was enjoying his game at Makepekepe only to be frustrated by the club’s weak financial position, which has seen the players going for months without getting salaries and bonuses.
A number of senior players have had been frustrated at the Green Machine and most of them have vowed not to renew their contracts which expired on December 31 if they get better offers elsewhere.
