were failing to access treatment due to either unavailability of the services or exorbitant treatment costs.
She said it was unfair to let other people die due to unaffordable costs of treatment.
“Every day I get calls from women complaining of the huge costs they are charged to undergo chemotherapy.
“It costs about US$450 a session and one requires at least three sessions a week,” she said.
DPM Khupe said women sometimes present themselves to health institutions which did not offer treatment.
Parirenyatwa Hospital, the only centre that was offering advanced cancer treatment in Zimbabwe, recently suspended operations for the installation of new machines.
“If one skips a session, she has to start all over again. It is so painful. I am advocating for affordable, available and accessible cancer services,” she said.
DPM Khupe said Government could not provide free cancer services.
She said Government should reduce cancer costs to US$50.
“It is my hope that this TKCF will attract many donors such that we are able to provide affordable treatment to all those who need it,” she said.
Mpilo and Parirenyatwa hospitals are the only cancer treatment centres in Zimbabwe.
DPM Khupe, however, said she looked forward to investing in mobile mammography among other essential treatments.
Meanwhile, DPM Khupe said the luncheon she held for the children at Village of Hope Orphanage was a way of thanksgiving to the Lord for saving her from cancer.
DPM Khupe further donated groceries worth about US$2 000 to the home.
Established 10 years ago, the orphanage is home to 67 orphans and other vulnerable children between the ages of one and 16 years.
A primary school, secondary school and clinic are also part of the project and are under the administration of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe.
