Kick-boxing team cancels trip

ZIMBABWE’s kick-boxing team that was set to take part in the World Championships were left a disappointed lot after they missed another opportunity to compete with the world’s best when the trip was cancelled due to financial constraints. The team made up of national champions Brighton Tangata, Terrence Munemo, Isaac Marara, Tafadzwa Muropa and Absolom Chiturumane had been preparing for the event since June.

The championships are already underway in Turkey. Zimbabwe qualified for the championships when Tangata and Munemo finished in the top three during an international tournament held in Gabon in June. The competition was a qualifier for the World Championships.

However, the team which was set to leave for Turkey last week failed to travel after the Zimbabwe Kick-boxing Association failed to raise the required money to cater for the trip.

This is not the first time the national association has failed to send a team for a major international event. However, Zika president, Tony Kamangira, remained optimistic that things will be better in the future.

“They failed to go because of money and in terms of development it really affects our progress as a country.
“However, we are not giving up, we will keep on trying to engage potential sponsors and maybe some day things will work out for us.”
