Zanu PF youths have exhorted central Government to take over the running of local authorities where service delivery has deteriorated under the watch of opposition led councils.
Apart from failing to provide service to the public in urban councils, the MDC-A councils have been busy stripping the local authorities as they indulge in sleazy and opaque dealings.
As a result, the country’s major towns and cities have been grappling with water shortages, uncollected garbage and rivulets of sewage.
While addressing the Zanu PF Youth League national executive members drawn from the country’s 10 provinces, the league’s acting Secretary Cde Tendai Chirau said time has come for central Government to step in.
“Let us be vigilant and ever be mindful of the fact that our enemies, the enemies of progress, never go to sleep as they continuously plot to unseat us. We are all aware of what is happening in urban councils, which are opposition controlled. We of course, deplore the deteriorating state of urban infrastructure, which is not only a direct consequence of the ineptitude of the clueless political quislings and wannabes in charge, but also a deliberate political ploy to discredit the ruling party.
“Comrades we have to step up and prevent these sponsored regime change charlatans from turning our cities into colonial era-villages. I say today that it is better to let the central Government move in and restore sanity to our urban areas,” said Cde Chirau.
Yesterday national executive meeting is the first this year following disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Aside from discussing service delivery in urban areas, the Youths League also zeroed in on drug abuse in the country which is becoming a menace as young people turn to illicit stimulants.
“It is highly disturbing, to note that there is a demon prowling the streets and pushing our youths into drug abuse and drug addiction, which is also rapidly spilling over into the rural areas. The deadly hallucinogenic Crystal Meth has hit our streets. It is a killer more powerful that heroin, cocaine, and cannabis (mbanje) combined,” said Cde Chirau.
He further said what is more painful is the fact that there is no viable help available in the form of medication and rehabilitation for addicts.
“This is time for us to add our voice as youth leaders in condemnation of this growing drug culture. We call unreservedly for the arrest and deterrent prosecution of all drug dealers and peddlers. Let us also constantly warn our members of the dangers of using drugs,” said Cde Chirau.
Speaking at the same occasion, Zanu PF Harare provincial youth chairman Cde Emmanuel Mahachi said there is need to conduct anti-drug campaign awareness in Harare especially in areas such as Mbare, Mabvuku, Chitungwiza among other areas which have been hit hardest by the illegal drug peddlers.
“In Harare the awareness campaigns are going to start next week starting with Mbare, which is a hotspot of drugs. We want to educate our youth on the dangers of drug abuse,” said Cde Mahachi.
Zanu PF youth league’s secretary for Indigenisation Cde Tonderai Bosha encouraged youth to take empowerment projects and make use of the available land for productive purposes.
