IN yesterday’s edition of this newspaper, we said the headmaster of Rivendale School, a private college in Domboshava, probably deserves the title of shame to be labelled the WORST HEADMASTER IN THE WORLD.
His name is Tofara Chitsveto.
This is the man who stunned the Harare Civil Court when he said he had proposed to a number of his students to have romantic affairs with them.
He even had the audacity to say that none of the students accepted his romantic proposals.
Chitsveto’s stunning claims even shocked magistrate Meenal Naratom who, at one stage, asked him if he was sober.
Chitsveto’s stunning claims came in a case in which he dragged Sibongile Mavingire, a teacher at the same school, to the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order.
He was claiming she assaulted him in front of the students.
The two started the private school together.
Chitsveto said Sibongile assaulted him after rumours she heard that he was dating one of the students at the school.
He said the reality was that he only proposed love to her and, like the other students he proposed love to, he never dated any of the students.
He said Sibongile was tarnishing his image.
Sibongile told the same court that half the students at the school received love proposals from Tofa.
She said she was the one who is in charge of guidance and counselling and as she was interacting with the children, they told her how the headmaster was sexually harassing them.
She said the worst nightmare was that Chitsveto was tarnishing another student’s reputation because she turned down his proposal.
For us, this is unacceptable.
We can’t allow a headmaster who had the audacity to tell a court, under oath, that he proposed love to his students and all of them turned him down.
This is simply unacceptable. It’s an abomination.
The headmaster is the chief of the school.
He is the one who has overall charge and should be the one who holds the moral compass at the school. He should be the one who protects all the students from all the threats which come their way.
He should be the one who provides guidance, the one they all look up to as the man who will be there for them in rain and sunshine.
For that man to then turn into the monster, which wants to devour the very people he is supposed to be protecting, is just unacceptable.
That is why we called him the worst headmaster in the world.
We could have called him the Headmaster from Hell and it would have fitted the bill.
We appeal to the Ministry of Education to intervene because this is not acceptable.
This man must be made an example so that others like him will always know that there is a big price to pay if they cross the line.
This headmaster crossed the red line and must pay for that.
He should be kicked out of our educational system.
