A 20-year-old man was on Friday kidnapped and held hostage amid demands that his family should pay a ransom of US$2000.

Dean Njikizana of Glenview 1 Extension collected US$614 from his father, Douglas Njikizana, 48, who runs a carpentry business in Southerton.

He did not get home that day.

The following day, Dean’s mother, Faith Njikizana, 42, received a photograph of her son’s hands and legs tied with a rope and his mouth covered with a cloth.

The photograph was sent alongside a message written “mwana takachengeta parikuda mari amai”.

Dean was only dressed in a pair of boxer shorts.

A second text message was received by Faith, which read, “Kana muchida mwana wenyu pari kudiwa US$2000 irikudiwa kusvika na1pm.

“Mari yacho munoisa panumber ipapa yemwana wenyu nekuti chitupa chake tinacho.”

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case saying investigations were in progress.

“Police are investigating a kidnapping and ransom case in Glen View.

“We will furnish with further details in due course,” he said.
