YESTERDAY we published the heart-breaking story of a university student who is battling for her life at a hospital in Harare.
Audrey Nyasha Rwambiwa, 25, was stabbed several times by her boyfriend at the weekend because she had returned home late from a party held in the capital.
She is a student at the Women University in Africa and stays at Tanaka Place, along Josiah Chinamano Avenue, in the Avenues area of the capital.
She was stabbed several times with a kitchen knife by her boyfriend, Webster Mubata.
The two have been staying together at the apartment in the Avenues area.
Their fallout started when Audrey attended a party at her friend’s home on Friday.
She returned home at around 3am on Saturday morning and this did not go down well with Webster.
He then started assaulting Audrey with clenched fists all over the body.
He picked a kitchen knife and stabbed Audrey once on the left breast, left finger, left arm and on the ribs.
When she ran into the toilet, trying to escape the vicious attack, he followed her and stabbed her several times on the back and left shoulder.
Audrey then found safety in the bathroom after she managed to lock the door before she later broke the toilet window and escaped calling for help from neighbours.
The neighbours responded and escorted her to Parirenyatwa Hospital where she was admitted.
Webster fled the scene.
This is very sad and what is clear is that Webster was not just trying to punish her but actually wanted to kill her.
He was obsessed with trying to kill her that he stabbed her all over her body and, when she tried to escape, he followed her and kept stabbing her.
We have covered all these stories because we believe that by casting a spotlight on these passion of crimes, we will be playing our little part in confronting these monsters.
That is why we are appealing to the members of the public to help the police arrest Webster.
He needs to be tried for his actions which clearly have the footprints of attempted murder.
We don’t want people like Webster in our society.
Audrey believed, or was fooled, to think that she was in a very good relationship and she felt so confident that she even stayed with him inside the same apartment.
We all fall in love and sometimes it is right and sometimes it is wrong.
We all hope for the best in our relationships. We understand Webster’s frustrations that his girlfriend returned home late.
But, we don’t agree with him that this gave them a licence to try and kill her in such a brutal manner.
We are praying that Audrey recovers from this attempt on her life and goes back to school because, as a university student, she has a lot to give to her country in the future.
She clearly doesn’t deserve a monster like Webster as a husband.
This man belongs to jail and not in a marriage.
