their differences were undermining the spirit of the ambitious Premiership club.
Veteran coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe – who left Kiglon for an unhappy spell at Monomotapa – returns to the club as head coach, and his appointment is with immediate effect.
Jongwe is one of the highly-rated coaches in this country and has been working as the technical advisor of the Mighty Warriors who qualified for the All-Africa Games.
Kiglon chief executive Thomson Dondo re-vealed last night that they had parted ways with Dhlakama, who made his name at Monomotapa and the Zimbabwe Under-17 team, following their 1-5 loss to CAPS United in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Rufaro on Saturday. Muskwe was also axed.
“The relationship between the head coach and his assistant had deteriorated so much that it was no longer helping the interests of the club,” said Dondo.
“We hired them to try and use their combined expertise to help turn Kiglon into a force, but we have realised that they have serious differences they could no longer be trusted to lead the club and achieve our goals.
“When you have such a situation in your dre-ssing room, it spills into the players and divisions emerge and it’s not healthy for team mo-rale. So we have decided to act, while we still have games, so that we address the dressing room and, hopefully, this will bring better results.”
Dondo said the Kiglon management were disappointed by the way their team collapsed, after having taken the lead, against CAPS United on Saturday.
“There were accusations and counter accusations in the camp and we felt that we needed to act to restore order,” said Dondo.
“It’s difficult to run a football club in Zimbabwe and we are sacrificing a lot to do that and the last thing you need is turmoil in your dressing room because there are differences between the coaches.
“We are not in the Premiership to donate points, but we want to win and we also want to compete, on the occasions that we fail to win, and after starting well against Dynamos, when we won, we have lost our way.”
Kiglon, who lost most of their main players to Dynamos during the off-season, started with a 1-0 win over DeMbare in their first Premiership tie under Dhlakama.
But they have only won two of their last 10 league matches, drawn four and lost four and, on Saturday, they slumped to a huge defeat against the Green Machine.
