Killer dad gets life term

A 38-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man has been sentenced to life in prison after he killed his two children following a misunderstanding with his wife over their custody.

Tafirei Ndlovu and his accomplice, who is still at large, locked the minors inside a kitchen before setting it ablaze.

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri confirmed the incident in a statement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to announce the successful conviction of Tafirei Ndlovu aged 38 in connection with a double murder that occurred on April 5 2022 in Plumtree,” she said.

“The tragic incident occurred under Chief Wasi area, Madabe, Plumtree when the accused together with his accomplice, Kudzani Muthukuthu, who is still at large, had a misunderstanding over the custody of his two minor children.

“They went on to lock the kitchen hut from outside before setting it ablaze, resulting in the untimely death of the victims. Following his arrest, the accused person was arraigned before the court, where he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the two counts by Justice Ngonidzashe Nduna at Bulawayo High Court on 7 July 2025.”

In another ruling, Ngonidzashe Mvura aged 34 of Plot 6/10 Government Farm in Kadoma was recently convicted and sentenced to an effective 25-year jail term after being convicted for a murder he committed on July 21 2024.

Mvura had a misunderstanding with his victim, which prompted him to fatally stab the victim with a flick knife.

The matter came to closure on July 2, 2025 after his conviction at the Chinhoyi High Court.
