Dancehall musician King Shaddy was involved in an alleged double dealing scam which saw him failing to perform at a Bindura concert recently resulting in fans protesting and destroying musical equipment and furniture.
According to promoter Tanaka Mupfurutsa, King Shaddy was scheduled to perform at Tendai Hall in Bindura and had even showed up for the event before disappearing.
Mupfurutsa said the dancehall chanter was scheduled to share the stage with Extra Large.
“King Shaddy was supposed to perform after Extra Large and he even showed up and was seen by expecting fans before asking and getting an upfront payment and mysteriously disappearing before performing,” he said.
Mupfurutsa believes King Shaddy was involved in a double booking as he went on to perform in Marondera the same night meaning he was never going to manage attending both shows.
“What he did was very unprofessional and one has also to consider the fans that paid to see him perform only for him to disappear.
“I was later informed that he had a performance on the same day in Marondera meaning he had made double booking and chose not to honour the Bindura show for reasons best known to him because he only never explained anything to me,” he explained.
Mupfurutsa said the failure of the artist to show up irked fans who then destroyed the PA system, broke furniture and windows in protest as they had seen the artiste and demanded an explanation as to why he was not performing.
“We lost the PA system. Fans were angry but we did not have a clear explanation. They went on to destroy a lot of things,” said Mupfurutsa.
In response, King Shaddy’s manager who identified himself as Ashley Brown refuted the claims saying the self proclaimed Makorokoza king had gone to Bindura to fulfil his part of the agreement which however was not fully met by the promoters prompting him to cancel his participation.
“The promoters in question had agreed to provide us with accommodation, transport and food allowances which they failed to do. They had also agreed on full payment before performance but again they failed to fulfil their end of the deal yet expected us to do them a favour.
“As such we left Bindura because we had commitments elsewhere but one of the promoters later called us to return but it was already a mission impossible and as far as I’m concerned we don’t owe anyone anything because the deal just didn’t materialize because the promoters failed to meet what we had agreed upon,” explained Brown.
Mupfurutsa and company insist King Shaddy left the place without engaging them.
