Kingdom Blue boss maintenance ruling today

THE civil court in Bulawayo is today expected to deliver a ruling on an application for variation submitted by Brilliant Ncube, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kingdom Blue Funeral Service.

Ncube is contesting a spousal maintenance claim lodged by his estranged wife, Sibonguthando Ncube.

The couple recently appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Eva Matura, who adjourned the matter to May 6. Ncube is seeking a discharge in the case, having been brought before the court on charges of contempt. The proceedings have added further strain to an already emotionally charged situation.

According to court documents, Ncube is facing contempt charges for allegedly failing to comply with a legally binding order to provide spousal support to his estranged wife.

On October 26, 2023, the Bulawayo Maintenance Court ordered Ncube to pay spousal maintenance. However, he has reportedly failed to make any payments over the past six months, accumulating arrears totalling US$6 550.

The court had ordered Ncube to pay US$550 per month, starting from October 2023. His failure to comply has now placed him in legal jeopardy.

In response, Ncube has allegedly offered to sell a residential stand in Mahatshula suburb, a property jointly acquired by the couple, as an alternative to meeting his spousal support obligations.

It is also understood that Ncube has initiated divorce proceedings.

Originally a hairdresser from Mathambo Village in Lupane, Ncube is widely respected for having built Kingdom Blue Funeral Service into one of Southern Africa’s fastest-growing funeral service providers. Using savings from his hairdressing business, he established the company, which now operates 12 branches in South Africa, 14 in Zimbabwe and one in Botswana.
