London Games in Texas, United States, dislocated her knee cap when jogging on March 26 and they were fears that the 28-year-old two-time Olympic Games women’s 200m backstroke champion might miss these Games due to this injury.
But Coventry’s manager, Tyrone Seward, said yesterday through the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee that the MRI results reported no major damage and the physician has given advice for rehabilitation to be done for the next three weeks.
This is the timeframe it (the injury) should take for the leg to heal, Seward said.
Coventry’s manager also said that although some time will be lost from her normal training schedule, the Zimbabwean swimming queen was in good form before the injury occurred and she continues to train her upper body in the gym with the aid of a float and tying her feet together, she is able to continue some swimming.
Seward added that a goal has been set for Coventry’s first competition since this injury and this will be the Charlotte Ultraswim meet scheduled to be held on May 10 -13 at Charlotte in North Carolina, United States.
“We are taking everything one week at a time and micromanaging the process and planning for the Olympics,” Seward said.
Coventry is also confident that she will recover fully in time for the London Games which are set to run from July 27 to August 12.
She said: “I was really scared when this (the injury) happened. It has happened before but never this close to the Olympics. I am in very good hands and remain positive that I can get back on track for the Games soon.
