In the same years, the seven-time Olympic medalist also claimed silver medals in the 100-metre backstroke behind American Natalie Coughlin. Diana Mocanu: At just 16 years old, Romanian swimmer Diana Mocanu won two gold medals at the 2000 Olympic Games — one in the 100-meter backstroke, and a second in the 200-metre backstroke. Her top finishes made her the first Romanian swimmer to claim Olympic gold.
Krisztina Egerszegi: Known as one of the greatest backstroke swimmers in history, Hungarian Krisztina Egerszegi won the 200-metre backstroke three times. She first won as a 14 year old in 1988 before she went on to claim two more consecutive 200-meter backstroke golds at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.
The seven-time Olympic medalist also won gold medals in the 100-metre backstroke and 400-metre individual medley at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. — The Guardian.
