Kite-high morale in MightyWarriors camp

THE Mighty Warriors are in high spirits as they prepare for their crucial Africa Nations Cup first-round qualifier against Angola next week.

Sithethelelwe Sibanda, the Mighty Warriors’ coach, says the morale within the camp is high, with the players motivated and eager for the challenge ahead.

“Everything is heading in the right direction. The camp has been fantastic, and the players are looking sharp and ready for the task ahead. We have received great support from the national association, and the girls are feeling very motivated,” said Sibanda.

While the team is in high spirits, Sibanda did mention concerns about their fitness levels, as they are in the off-season. However, she is optimistic that they will be prepared in time.

“We are in the off-season, which presents some challenges with fitness. However, we still have a week to prepare, and we are confident that we will be ready,” said Sibanda.

Sibanda also pointed out that sharpening the strikeforce is crucial for advancing to the next round.
“One of the major areas we are working on is our strike force. We are focusing on making sure that part of our game is sharp and ready,” said Sibanda.

Women’s football administrator and coach, Sibekiwe Ndlovu, also praised the support shown by the new Zifa executive, calling it a strong motivator for the team.

“Honestly, the preparations have been more than adequate, and now it’s up to the coaches to fine-tune the combinations. The team is highly motivated, especially when it comes to allowances and overall preparations. With everything in place, I believe the team is ready to compete,” said Ndlovu.

Sibanda further emphasised the importance of key players like Ruvimbo Mucherera, who made history as the first Zimbabwean woman to participate in the UEFA Champions League. Alongside her, experienced internationals like Emmaculate Msipa and Yolanda Kanyai add depth and quality to the squad. This mix of youth and experience could be key to Zimbabwe’s success.

Teams like Black Rhinos, Chapungu Queens, and Herentals Queens have all contributed talented players, ensuring a strong foundation.

With the goal of qualifying for the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations within reach, Sibanda is focused on maintaining the right mindset within the team.

“I have complete faith in the players we have selected. We have the ability to compete at the highest level, and I am confident the team will rise to the occasion. We have been working relentlessly on our strategies, and with the right focus, I believe we can qualify for AFCON 2026. It’s going to be tough, but we are ready for the challenge,” Sibanda concluded.

The Mighty Warriors will face Malawi in the second round, provided they beat Angola in the first round. This follows Congo’s withdrawal from the tournament, citing a lack of competition and preparation.-@innocentskizoe
