Knee injury rules out Thixton

TOP Zimbabwean motocross rider, Ashley “Speed Demon” Thixton, will not be part of starting line when this year’s Summer Series roars to life next week due to a knee injury.

The season-ending motorcycling event will get underway with two Super cross challenges (night racing) on December 10 and 12 and then end with a motocross event on December 14.

Over 25 foreign riders from South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda are expected to take part in the high-profile event.

Some of the top names who have confirmed their attendance include reigning Summer Series champion Kerim Fitzgerald and South African riders Michael Kok, David Goosen and Ross Brunch.

Thixton was the champion two seasons in a row until he relinquished the title to Jayden Ashwell.

“I won’t be performing at this year’s event due to a knee injury which I suffered at the last national race meeting,” Thixton told The Herald.

“I might not be riding competitively till early next year.

“Naturally I am very disappointed about this because the Summer Series is one of the biggest events any racer in the country will be looking forward to.

“This is the best opportunity one can get to really do well for their country and for themselves but there is nothing I can do about it really.

“Although I won’t be riding, I will definitely be there supporting our riders, I believe we have some really exceptional riders in our country.”
