Two robbers who were last Thursday slapped with five-year jail terms each were last Monday sentenced to another 14 years apiece in prison for committing three more counts of robbery.

Learnmore Matiyenga (20) and Elvis Kunaka (22) will now serve 19 years in jail after Harare regional magistrate Mr Hoseah Mujaya convicted them of three counts of robbery.

The pair’s accomplice, Tafadzwa Mutede (23), was also sentenced to 14 years in prison, but

three years of his sentence were suspended for four years on condition of good behaviour.

Mr Mujaya, however, did not suspend Matiyenga and Kunaka’s sentence as he said the pair did not deserve any leniency in this matter since they had two years suspended in their previous sen- tence.

Facts are that the trio used a knife to threaten their victims into surrendering their valuable assets.

The three would offer a lift to their victims and as one of was driving, the others would threaten the passenger with a knife to surrender cash, mobile phones and laptops.

At one point, the trio hired a taxi and ended up getting away with the vehicle after they had threatened to kill the taxi driver.

Mr Ephraim Zinyandu prosecuted.
