Know your author: Beatrice Sithole

Born Beatrice Feya in 1954, in Chigavakava Village under chief Nerutanga in Buhera, Beatrice grew up at Chapwanya Township.
Her father, Shadreck T Feya, was a prominent businessperson in Buhera and Gutu. Her mother Eskina Feya was also a businessperson who was a supportive partner to her husband and was guided by a strong Christian background.

Beatrice was the last born in a family of six. She had four sisters and a brother who is now late.
Her sister was a teacher and Beatrice would, on several occasions, transfer to different schools which included, Chapungu and Matsveru Primary Schools in Buhera. Driefontein Mission in Mvuma to mention but a few.

Upon completing primary education, Beatrice studied secondary education through correspondence because she had to help her father run his business empire.
“I started driving at 14 years of age and I would usually help him with his books. I was also responsible for shop errands that included purchasing goods for sale and supervising the operations of the shops,” Beatrice said.

During the time she worked with her father, Beatrice says she learnt a lot from him and he was her role model both as a businessman and as a family man.
Her father had strong Christian principles and he made sure his family followed suit and taught them to be hard workers.
After completing Advanced Level studies, Beatrice enrolled for a secretarial course at Commercial Careers College in Harare and she also studied for a diploma in Accounts at the same college.

Beatrice married Amen Sithole, who was the then council secretary in Gutu in 1973. After the birth of their first born child Lovemore, Amen left the white collar job to go and join the war of liberation in 1975,  and came back at Independence.
After Independence Beatrice worked as a records clerk in the Office of the President and retired after 20 years of service. Before she retired in the year 2000 she  was an Assistant Director Administration.

Her first book “Walking in God’s Way” was published in 1995. At that time she started writing messages for anytime cards in Shona and Ndebele.
After the publication of “Walking in God’s Way”, Beatrice saw it fit to continue writing and motivating people and to date, she has published seven books.
In the mid 1990s, Beatrice started running a gym for women in Bluffhill. The more books she wrote, the more she became popular in motivational speaking and later closed the gym to concentrate more on her passion for motivating and writing.

Beatrice has been travelling all over the country on motivational speaking missions and she has been invited to speak at functions that include corporate, churches, non governmental organisations and private functions. She is also a board member of organisations which include, Zimbabwe Writers Association, Harare Children’s Home and Children’s Holiday Society among others.

Beatrice, who gave birth to two more boys Kudzai (1982) and Tafadzwa (1985) and together with her husband, they adopted a girl from Bindura SOS Children’s Home in the year 1990, after she had seen her on television seeking help from well wishers to launch a music career.
Touched by her plea, Beatrice adopted Chipo Gloria Dande.

Together with Chirikure Chirikure, Beatrice helped Chipo through education and in launching her music career and to date, she has recorded one album titled “Ndinochema” featuring the song “Zimbabwe you are Beautiful”.

Beatrice’ latest book “Tribute to God” was written in five languages which include English, Shona, Ndebele, French and Swahili.
Her wish is to see the people of Zimbabwe and beyond grow through the message the book carries.

Currently, Beatrice is working on publishing the second edition of the “Tribute to God” but this time, in minority languages from all corners of the country.
She also wants to expand her territory by writing an edition of the book in Braille.

Guided by a Christian background Beatrice has changed a lot of lives through the seminars she has been given the platform to speak and through her books.
She is a grandmother of six.
