Knowing God —Part III

We have been talking about knowing God. Through the life of a great man of God, Samuel from the Bible we are discovering the priceless gem of seeking to know the God we serve and worship. Worshipping him is not enough, dancing, praising — we need to know Him. Today we will also dig and see how we can get to know Him whilst facing adversities or challenges in life.

“And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. And the LORD came, and stood and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.” 1 Samuel 3:6-11

One of the greatest quotes from the Apostle Paul is the prayer he made; that I may know Him, and the power of his resurrection, Philippians 3:10. The servant of God had gone through a lot of challenges for Christianity to be established yet his desire was that he may know Him! You need to understand something; when you are going through tough times it doesn’t mean you are not called. It simply means you are like the child of the businessman who is going through struggle to master how to sustain the business when the father will not be there. If we don’t get close enough to know how, the successful empire will collapse in our hands.

It simply means you are like that pastor I told you of last week who struggled with the church in its infancy and today is unmovable and a great pillar in God’s house. Pillars are strong yet they go through and bear much pressure. No matter what is happening in your marriage, family, health, church or workplace, just don’t be angry or feel discouraged. Don’t let the gift in you die because of what you are going through. Each anointing has another side. It comes with beauty and also comes with struggle or challenges. Like a coin there is head and tail. Be able to embrace both sides. Many are called of God, but challenges in the field are what turn them away.

If you need to be as successful as another person you should be willing to go through challenges. At one time another powerful preacher was near missed by a bomb that was set for him at his home due to the uncompromising messages he had been preaching. This means if you want to be like that powerful preacher, be prepared to go through what such people go through. If you want to be like the Apostle Paul be willing to be left for dead like the Apostle Paul for the sake of the Gospel. Yet in all this the Lord is with us and preserves us in victory. For in all these things we are more than conquerors.

As God uses you powerfully seek to know Him who called you and is using you powerfully. If you preach or sing and people fall down under God’s power, as they fall, seek to know who called you; seek to know what is causing people to fall down! When you get the anointing seek to know who gave you the anointing. He may speak to you and you don’t even hear it. Samuel almost missed it until the third time.

He speaks and you run to the normal. He speaks and you run to the ordinary. Yet he wants you to go to the extra ordinary. After many years of serving the Lord, I had an encounter and an experience that changed everything about my life. Friend knowing God is the best thing that could ever happen to any man’s life. Daniel says those that know their God shall be strong and do great exploits. If only you can take a pause and step closer and seek to know God. It’s possible. For with God all things are possible, Mark 10:27.
