A tragic road accident claimed the lives of 22 people and injured 2 others at the 27km peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road at around 10pm on Tuesday.

The collision, which involved a Toyota Quantum vehicle and a DAF truck, occurred near Thandweni Store.

Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident and said the injured were admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

“22 people were killed whilst two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
