Gwese, suffered prejudice of US$900. Takawira Mandundu a temporary driver and his assistant Tonderai Chinhengo (30) both of Zengeza 3, pleaded guilty of using the vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo sentenced the pair to12 months in prison each and suspended three months for the next five years. A further four months were set aside on condition they each restitute Gwese of US$450.
Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani proved that on March 28, at around 5pm, the duo went to Gwese’s house and lied to his mother that they have had been sent to take the vehicle, a Toyota Hiace, and ply the Hwedza-Murambinda route.
They were given US$10 for fuel and drove away.
The duo diverted from the usual route and pocketed the money. Gwese then reported the matter to the police leading to their arrest.
