A Seke kombi driver has been convicted on seven counts of violating the Road Traffic Act.
Tinashe Hwariro (27) of Murisa Village pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent driving, one count of reckless driving, two counts of failing to stop after a serious road traffic accident and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
He appeared before magistrate Ms Rutendo Mangwiro and is expected to be sentenced today.
Prosecutor Mr Malvin Mwendera told the court that all the offences occurred on the same day around 7pm along an unnamed road in Chitungwiza’s Unit N.
One of the victims, 49-year-old Pearsom Kanzviti, was driving a Toyota Sprinter heading to the west.
Hwariro, driving a Nissan Caravan public service vehicle with registration number AHA 0156, was travelling east when the incident occurred.
According to Mr Mwendera, Hwariro drove negligently by encroaching into Kanzviti’s lane, sideswiping his vehicle on the right side.
Kanzviti’s car got damaged on the right side.
Instead of stopping, Hwariro fled the scene and collided with two additional vehicles belonging to Fandress Mbazima and Kweri Prince during his escape.
His own vehicle, a Nissan Caravan was also damaged in the incidents.
The accused’s vehicle was later referred to the Chitungwiza Vehicle Inspection Department for assessment.
No one was injured during the incidents.
However, Hwariro sped off unnoticed after the accidents, only to be apprehended later.
