GOSPEL singer Ivy Kombo and her husband Admire Kasi’s trial for fraud and perjury was postponed due to their lawyer’s request for more time to prepare their response to the State’s papers.
The couple is accused of paying US$1 100 to obtain their law conversion certificates, and registering as practitioners, without the necessary Certificate for Legal Education (CLE), for them to practice law in Zimbabwe.
The two had graduated from the University of Bedfordshire in England.
They are jointly charged with a suspended secretary for CLE, Huggins Duri.
The case will continue on a continuous roll from December 11-13.
The State says that sometime in 2021, Kombo approached Shorai Mupunga with the intention of seeking to register and write the examinations.
Mupunga advised Kombo that Duri would facilitate the certificates, without them writing the examinations, if they paid US$1 100.
The pair paid the money through Mupunga, who then gave it to Duri, who certified that the couple had written and passed eight subjects.
The fraud was discovered by officers from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
Prosecutors Anesu Chirenje and Oscar Madume have indicated that seven other witnesses will testify in the case.
