KP ‘was offered clean slate’

Kevin Pietersen says he was offered “a clean slate” by the England and Wales Cricket Board, clarifying his anger  over his omission by England.
The Surrey batsman, 34, agreed with chairman Colin Graves’ statement on Friday  that he had received “no guarantees” of selection.

But he says he was assured a line had been drawn under his past conduct.
New ECB director of cricket Andrew Strauss had told Pietersen he would not be selected due to “trust issues”.

Strauss and Pietersen clashed in 2012 over provocative text messages sent to South African players, while Pietersen was also highly critical of current England Test captain Alastair Cook in his autobiography.

“No one is guaranteed selection. I was told there was a clean slate,” he tweeted  on Saturday. “I wanted to earn my place back.”

Pietersen cut short his Indian Premier League commitments to rejoin Surrey this season and scored a career-high 355 not out against Leicestershire on Monday and Tuesday. — BBC Sport
