DAYS after we reported that ex-Warriors midfielder Kudakwashe “Nkembe” Mahachi had failed to reach a mutual agreement that could have seen him rejoining his former local club Chicken Inn FC, it has emerged the ginger haired footie star has joined Ghanaian club champions Medeama SC on a one-year renewable contract.

He has had an eventful and stressful year and a half punctuated by multiple court appearances on alleged child abuse and attempted murder charges.

This led to his release by South Africa’s DStv Premiership side Supersport United.

At the time of going to print, the player’s agent Gibson Mahachi could neither confirm nor deny the development asking this reporter to call him after some time as he was in a meeting.

“For now, I can’t comment. I’m in the office and there are people with me. I don’t want to mislead you. Please come back to me after about an hour,” said the Harare based agent.

However, a South-Africa-based source who is close to Mahachi revealed that the Mzilikazi bred footballer was indeed destined for Ghana.

“It’s true, Kuda has joined a Ghanaian club. All has been sorted,” said the source.

We can reveal that of late the player has been shuttling between Bulawayo and Johannesburg where he is reportedly now a permanent resident.

In Bulawayo he owns a house in the high density suburb of Cowdray Park.
Ghana’s Soccer Net reported yesterday that the 29-year-old midfielder had agreed terms with Medeama SC who are in the process of beefing up their squad ahead of their maiden participation in the CAF Champions League, which begins later this month.

Mahachi has 41 caps with four goals for the Zimbabwe national team since making his debut on September 9, 2013, against Mozambique in a World Cup qualifying match.

He was part of the Zimbabwe squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship. He helped the team to a fourth-place finish after being defeated by Nigeria.

He was also a member of the Warriors squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Interestingly, Nkembe was the last player to score for the Warriors before the country was banned from taking part in international competitions by FIFA citing third party interference in the sport.

However, Fifa recently lifted the 18-month long suspension.

The global governing body had suspended Zimbabwe in February 2022.

As a result, the team missed out on playing in the African Cup of Nations preliminaries in 2023.
