Kuda Masaraure speaks on championship

AFTER going for four games without a win and dropping into second place Gunners finally remembered how to win over the weekend and coach Kuda Masaraure is upbeat his side will be crowned champions.
Gunners beat Lake Harvest 1-0, but they remain in second place after Flame Lilly dismissed Blue Swallows 1-0 with a late late show at Chikurubi.

Mushowani also bagged three points against Chegutu Pirates in Madziva with the same scoreline.

Gunners, relegated into the Lower Division in 2012 after a poor run, are hoping to bounce back into the top-flight league at the end of the season.
And Masaraure said they need to win all the remaining five games to keep their hopes alive.

“In the last five games we need to, at least, get 15 points, we know we will be there.” said the Gunners’ mentor.

“Chances are there for the three teams but that is why I said we need to collect 15 points.

“I don’t see the other teams winning all the matches because they have tricky teams unlike us and I think we have good chances.”

The Gunners coach said the three points they got on Sunday were crucial and it will restore confidence in the players after a string of poor results.

“I think it is a morale-booster to the guys because we have not been winning for a month,” said Masaraure.

“They played well in the first half but the second half did not go well, however, I thank God we got three points.

“In the next game the boys will have confidence.

“I think we got our winning formula back and the chances of taking the league title are there, we are not looking back.”

Gunners led for a lengthy spell after taking over from Bindura United in the first half of the season.

But, of late, their campaign has gone off the rails when they dropped 10 points in four games.

Their rivals Flame Lily and Mushowani, who at some point seemed to have been eliminated from the title race, gained ground.

Mushowani are third in the race with 58 points.

They trail Flame Lily by three points and Gunners by two points.

And that is a close call because, if the leaders stumble, and they win, they could be there in the leadership of the race.
