KUSILE Rural District Council in Matabeleland North Province has received a state-of–the-art motorised grader from the Government.
The grader is part of the 40 that were commissioned by President Mugabe recently and were bought by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) from China under the Road Recapitalisation Programme. Before the inception of the programme, a huge proportion of the money that Zinara was disbursing to road authorities was spent on hiring equipment from private players who were charging exorbitant fees.

In an interview on Tuesday, Lupane district administrator Mr Christopher Chuma said they received the motorised grader last week.
“We applaud the Government for the motorised grader we have received as a rural council. It is a relief to us as it will assist in maintaining our road network,” said Mr Chuma.

He said the grader will drastically reduce the costs of maintaining roads in the district.
Recently, the Minister of Transport, Communication and Infrastructural Development, Nicholas Goche said the road recapitalisation programme was set to capacitate each local authority with road maintenance equipment comprising a motorised grader, a front-end loader, two tippers, a roller and a dumper.
