Kutama win B Division gala

by Westridge Secondary and it attracted swimmers from Westridge, Gateway, Eaglesvale, Churchill, Watershed, Alan Wilson, Kutama and Prince Edward.
The gala catered for five age groups – Under-14 to Under-15, Under-16 to Under-17 and the Open category.
The Under-14 to Under-15 participants took part in the 25m backstroke, breaststroke, crawl and role up relay while the Under-16 to Under-17 and those that participated in the Open category competed in the 50m backstroke, breaststroke, crawl and role up relay.

Kutama finished on top with 355 points while Gateway came second with 297 points.
In third place was Eaglesvale who amassed 276 points.
Churchill managed 242 points to finish in fourth place while Watershed came fifth with 170 points.

Alan Wilson and Westridge were sixth and seventh with 139 and 97 points respectively. Prince Edward participated on a friendly basis as they are in the A Division.
Westridge head of sport, Russell Munyaradzi was impressed with the level of competition.
“The competition was stiff, looking at the points, Kutama was very competitive, it shows how good their swimmers are and they were well prepared for the competition.

“The turnout was also very good, on average we had 125 swimmers.
“This is the first time Westridge hosted the event, it has been running for a while and was held at Prince Edward because Westridge are still in the process of completing their swimming pools. Some of the schools did not turn up,” said Munyaradzi.

Munyaradzi said they were going to have the final event this coming weekend at Alan Wilson.
“We had had two events before and we are going to have the final gala next week to see who gets promoted into the A division,” said Munyaradzi.

Meanwhile, Westridge Primary held an invitational swimming relay gala recently that featured five schools including Alex Park, Lusitania, Borrowdale Primary and Lewisam.
The hosts fielded two teams A and B and their A team were crowned the overall winners.
