Zimbabwe is set to benefit from the $1 billion fund set aside by Kuwait to support Africa. Kuwait representative in Zimbabwe Ambassador Ahmed Al Jeeran last week pledged to assist Zimbabwe spearhead its economic blueprint Zim-Asset. He said this after paying a courtesy call to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his Munhumutapa Offices in Harare on Thursday.

Mr Al Jeeran said Kuwait was willing to work with Zimbabwe in different areas.

“Every year Kuwait sets aside $1 billion to support projects in Africa and Zimbabwe should benefit. Zimbabwe can get as much money as it wants for its projects.

“We discussed with the Vice President on several issues including strengthening relations between the two countries and what Kuwait can do for Zim-Asset to succeed,” he said. Mr Al Jeeran said Kuwait could assist Zimbabwe in the health sector, education and issues on power.

“There are also going to be exchange visits between Zimbabwe and Kuwait,” he said.

Zimbabwe and Kuwait enjoy cordial relationships dating back to the early 1990s after Kuwait established its embassy in Harare in 1992 and Zimbabwe followed suit a few years later.
