Zimbabwe have named a team for this event and it will be made up of seven karatekas, Lovemore Nyamutswa, Malvery Muyambo, Phumulani Maphosa, Shingi Murimi, George Mutambu, Tinashe Matika and Austin Mucheni.
They are currently training at Royal Sports Club in Harare on a daily basis under the guidance of Kumbirai Musinami.
“Preparations are going on very well and the guys are already in camp. We are now training everyday except for Sundays. For those that are not going to work we train three times a day, that is in the morning, afternoon and in the evening. We have no injuries but in practice you can never say you’ll have it all. We are trying to ensure that our fighters don’t sustain any injuries during practise sessions,” said Musinami.
He also said that they are hoping to send a team of seven fighters if resources permit as they wish to field at least two fighters in three categories.
“We are hoping to take seven fighters if finances permit. If we fail, then we will take five fighters because there is the lightweight category in which we wish to field two fighters and the middleweight in which we need two fighters as well. In the Open weight category we, at least, need two or three participants. We have got the guys but it’s only that we have some challenges with the finances,” said Musinami.
