BULAWAYO-based tribal house group, Kwabatsha, has released a single titled Magitare/Ebunandini. The group collaborated with Laninah Benz from Botswana and Tabeka Siphe from Cape Town, South Africa. In an interview, Kwabatsha director and co-founder, Trust Madolo Gumbo said the song was a masterpiece that every house music fan should have.
“It is one of the best tracks we have done so far and we are happy because we managed to work with established house musicians on the track. We are maturing in our music and we have been fortunate to have met these artistes who were of great help to us,” he said.
Gumbo said he was happy with how fans have received their music and how they had inspired other musicians who are following in their footsteps.
“We try to be original with our music. We want to distinguish ourselves from South African musicians and we want to be identified as Zimbabweans because we are proud Zimbabweans,” he said.
Last year, local music lovers mistakenly thought the group’s hit song Bhatshi was a South African song.
Bhatshi, also known as Zvangu Zvamuka, became an instant hit after its release and the group has built from that success.
“Fans should support our music and we are grateful for the support they have given us thus far,” he said.
Kwabatsha is a traditional dance outfit that is based at Mzilikazi Youth Centre. The group exhibits artistic flexibility, which has seen it trying its hand in different art genres.
The group is made up of 23 members of both genders aged between 18-30. It was formed in September 2008 and is an offshoot of Amawumbo Dance Group.
