GEMS’ star, Felistas Kwangwa, got her preparations for the 2023 England Netball Super League off to a flying start after being named player of the match in pre-season friendly match over the weekend.
Kwangwa’s Surrey Storm team beat Saracen Maveriscks 67-37 in the game.
Kwangwa said she is rearing to go ahead of the season kick off next month.
“It’s a good way to start 2023. Thank you Storm family for your amazing relentless work that made us walk out of that netball court celebrating.
“To our amazing fans, words are not enough to describe how important you are to us. Without you, we would not be here and I just hope I can be able to keep up such a performance the whole season,” she said.
Kwangwa will be leading the Gems in the Netball World Cup set for Cape Town, South Africa, in July.
Zimbabwe qualified for their second successive Netball World Cup after beating neighbours Zambia 59-41 in a third-place playoff match at the Africa Netball World Cup Qualifiers in Pretoria, South Africa, last year.
History repeated itself, as four years ago, the Gems defeated Zambia to secure their maiden Netball World Cup appearance in Liverpool, England, where they went on to finish in eighth position.
Four African teams will compete in this year’s extravaganza.
South Africa automatically qualified as hosts, and Uganda on a superior ranking, while Malawi and Zimbabwe had to go through qualifiers.
