The much-anticipated third edition of the Kwantuthu Comedy Festival will run for two days this year, down from its traditional three, following the unexpected cancellation of the stand-up comedy night.

While details surrounding the removal of the laughter-filled event remain unclear, the increased participation of eight schools, up from two last year, signals a promising and vibrant festival.

In a statement, festival board secretary Gugulethu Masha expressed regret over the change: “It is with deep regret that we inform you of the removal of the Stand-up Comedy night from this year’s KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival programme, which was scheduled for the 26th of October 2024. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“The cancellation was due to factors beyond our control, but we are hopeful that Stand-up Comedy will return in 2025. However, Day One and Day Two events remain unchanged and are scheduled as follows:

  • Day One (24th October 2024): Theatre Day at Bulawayo Theatre, featuring performances by Dominican Convent High School, St Augustine’s College, Sobukhazi High School, and Jubilee Academy.
  • Day Two (25th October 2024): High School Short Films Screening at Bulawayo Theatre, featuring films by Dominican Convent High School, St Augustine’s College, Sobukhazi High School, St Columba’s High School, Girls College, King George VI Memorial School, St John’s High School, and Mandwandwe High School.”

The festival continues to focus on nurturing young talent, with schools playing a major role in this year’s event.
