KWEKWE artists are mourning youthful Zimdancehall artist, Gilbert Foya, also known as Dollar Vibes, who was killed in cold blood on Friday morning.
He was stabbed to death by an unidentified assailant after he allegedly assaulted his ex-wife, Chipo Phiri, at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre.
Dollar Vibes and his ex-wife had a row over maintenance for their three-year-old child.
Speaking to H-Metro, Kwekwe artists mourned the untimely death of the promising young chanter.
“This young artist had a great following in the city and we were hoping and praying that one day he would make a breakthrough onto the world stage, as the genre’s catch phrase says ‘Zimdancehall to the world’.
“He was an ever smiling hard worker and will be solely missed by many who knew him,” said Tawanda Jumo, aka Bantuman I.
“The first time I met him, I was MC at Kwekwe Arts Culture Sports Festival at Mbizo Stadium and the crowd went wild chanting his slogan ‘Ita dollar hauite’, and for real he had the audience eating out of his hands.
“He was pure talent that needed grooming and guidance, but sadly that won’t happen now.”
According to police, Foya and his ex-wife Phiri were drinking beer at Mbizo Night Club at Mbizo 4 Business Centre, around 1am, last Friday.
It is alleged that a misunderstanding arose over the upkeep of their child.
The two went outside the night club to try and resolve their dispute.
Foya reportedly assaulted Phiri, and a man disembarked from a nearby black Honda Fit, armed with a knife, and stabbed Foya several times all over the body, before driving away.
Foya was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police are appealing to the public to assist with information that can lead to the arrest of the murderer.
“May members of the public with information about this murder, and the whereabouts of the suspect, pass it on to the police,” said Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
