THE football revolution underway in the Midlands town of Kwekwe is having a far reaching impact both locally and internationally.

Football in Kwekwe is alive once again, thanks to Hardrock’s promotion into the Premier Soccer League and just like what Scottland did upon their arrival last year, the Midlands side are also attracting widespread attention.

Thanks to their financial stability, Hardrock have attracted some of the top players in the country, including reigning Soccer Star of the Year, Washington Navaya.

Central midfielder Munashe Bamara, who had a sensational season at Triangle United last term is also now at Hardrock where he joined the likes of Donald Mudadi and Misheck Ngwenya.

Hardrock will use the state of the art Chahwanda Stadium for their home matches.

The much publicised arena will be opened in February.

The football wave in Kwekwe is generating effects across the country and beyond.

A supporters’ chapter has already been established in the border town of Beitbridge while another one will be launched in South Africa.

“What Hardrock are doing is phenomenal. Just like what Scottland did last year, this team is also generating a lot of interest thanks to their professionalism and stability.

“The club’s owner has built a state of the art stadium in Kwekwe which can also benefit the whole country,” Beitbridge based football enthusiast, Clemence Mabhidhi said.

“Kwekwe is a small town but things are happening there.

“And people are noticing and appreciating. We are here in Beitbridge, very far away from Kwekwe but we are impressed with what Hardrock are doing.

“They are buying good players and also their packages are decent which is good for the players,” added Mabhidhi.

Hardrock won the ticket to the Premiership after winning the Central Region Soccer League championship last season.

Former Shabanie Mine and Triangle United coach Luke Masomere led the team but has since been replaced by Zambian gaffer Kelvin Kaindu who won the Chibuku Super Cup with Dynamos last season.
