IT will be a double celebration for music lovers in Kwekwe when it hosts the inaugural Bob Nyabinde Jazz Festival at Gulez Gardens on Saturday.

The jazz fête coincides with the launch of the late crooner’s book “The Headmaster With A Guitar: Bob Nyabinde” penned by Munyaradzi Huni.

Nyabinde died on December 23, last year, aged 68.

There were plans to launch his biography while he was still alive but he lost the battle against stroke and diabetes.

Agga Nyabinde, the late singer’s son, said preparations are well on course.

“We are almost done with preparations for my father’s double celebrations beginning with the book launch at 2pm at Gulez Gardens.

“However, the book launch will be strictly by invitation while the musical gala is free for everyone.

“We urge our music fans to come in numbers so we celebrate this legend,” he said.

He added:

“It’s quite encouraging when people in Kwekwe show my father special love.

“He was a big man in Kwekwe who educated many people and he performed in town back in the day at clubs such as Tropicana, Golden Mine, among other areas in Mbizo.

“I am humbled to be united by some of the people who rallied behind my father.

105 Promotions, under Josh Hozheri, are behind the festival.

Jazz players led by Stephen Makoni and Victor Kunonga will headline the event.

Clive “Mono” Mukundu, Kireni Zulu, Agga and Albert Nyabinde, Sam Mataure,  Terry Bliss, Trevor the One and Bantuman from Kwekwe are part of the bill.
