A 28-year-old woman from Kwekwe who assaulted her father, accusing him of being drunk, has been fined US$200 and given a suspended prison sentence.

The accused, whose identity was not disclosed by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), appeared last week at the Kwekwe Magistrates Court facing two counts: domestic violence and malicious damage to property.

The woman pleaded guilty to both charges.

The NPAZ stated that she received a two-month prison sentence, suspended on condition of good behaviour, for the domestic violence charge.

She was also fined US$200 for malicious damage to property.

According to the State, on July 1 at around 2 pm at the family home in Mbizo suburb, the woman confronted her father, slapping him twice on the head while accusing him of being drunk.

She later smashed the rear and side screens of a Toyota Ipsum with a brick, causing damage valued at US$250.

A report was made to the police, leading to her arrest.
