MIGHTY Warriors coach, Sithethelelwe Sibanda, is today expected to announce her final travelling squad for the Cosafa Women’s Championship that gets underway in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, next week.
A 30-member squad has been in camp in Harare since the beginning of the week to prepare for the annual regional tournament, whose holders are hosts South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who beat the Mighty Warriors 2-1 in last year’s final at Barbourfields Stadium.
The Mighty Warriors are in Group C alongside Eswatini, Namibia and East African guests Uganda. They get their campaign underway with a clash against Namibia on September 13 before meeting Eswatini on the following day. Their last group game will be on September 17 against Uganda.
Yesterday, Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda and executive member Phillimon Machana visited the girls at their training base at the Zifa Village in Mount Hampden.
“Morale is high; the girls are happy with their preparations and promised to bring the Cosafa Cup home. They promised to also parade it in Bulawayo as a thank you gesture for the support Bulawayo residents gave them last year,” said Sibanda.
